Preschool marketing ideas that follow the enrolment calendar

Updated 22 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

Preschool marketing in Malaysia works when it follows the parents' calendar and wins the first enquiry. In our library of 1,637 preschools and childcare centres (October 2026), reviews written peak in July and from November to January, the months of enrolment and year-end concerts, and fall away from February to April. Plan open days and review requests around those months, and answer every enquiry the same day.

Parents write in July and at year end, so market before then

Reviews written are a sign of what parents are doing, not a count of them. Read across the year, they trace the enrolment calendar.

WhenReviews written in our libraryWhat to do
February to AprilThe low point: 597 in February 2025, 386 in February 2026Settle new children. Send new parents a weekly note. Refresh your Google photos and fee sheet.
May and JuneRising: 1,040 in May 2025, 1,202 in June 2025Plan the open day. Ask current parents whether a younger sibling will join next year.
JulyFirst peak: 2,729 in July 2025Run the open day. Follow up every visit within two days.
August to OctoberSteadyOffer trial mornings. Confirm next year's places in writing.
November to JanuaryBiggest peak: 3,013 in December 2025Year-end concert and registration. Ask happy parents for a review.

The July peak means parents are deciding by then. Your open day, fee sheet and Google profile need to be ready in June.

Many low reviews start at the enquiry, not in the classroom

In the low preschool reviews we read, a large share came from parents who never enrolled. They asked about places, waited for days, and wrote about the wait. Others describe WhatsApp messages left on blue ticks.

Do this week: give one person the enquiry phone and WhatsApp each day. Reply within two hours with the fee sheet, start dates and an invitation to visit. Keep a simple list of every enquiry, when it came in and when you answered.

How you will know: the share of enquiries that book a visit, month by month, and how many got a reply within two hours.

Put the full fee in writing at the open day

Some parents write that the fee they heard at the open day grew once the child started, with transit or after-school care added on. That gap costs more than the fee itself, because parents tell other parents.

Do this week: make one fee sheet. List registration, the monthly fee, transit or after-school care, meals, materials, holiday care, and what changes next year. Hand out the same sheet at the counter and on WhatsApp.

If fees must rise, tell parents a full term ahead. Our price increase notice guide has wording you can use.

How you will know: no fee questions from new parents in their first month.

Show parents an ordinary day, not only the concert

Some parents who leave write that the centre looked wonderful on Parents' Day, with many teachers in the room, and different on a normal Tuesday. Prospective parents sense this too.

Do this week:

  • Invite visiting parents to come on any normal weekday morning, by appointment, not only on open day.
  • Send current parents a short weekly note of what the class did, with photos of artwork, the room and hands at work.
  • Keep children's faces and names out of every post. The Social Welfare Department reminded the public in July 2026 not to share content that identifies children (Malay Mail, July 2026).

How you will know: more visits on ordinary days, and parents who mention the weekly note when they re-register.

Tell parents when a teacher changes, before the child does

Teachers changing too often is a complaint that repeats, and keeping teachers is one of owners' biggest worries. Some parents who moved a child write that the next centre's teacher kept them updated.

Do this week: introduce each new teacher to parents with a short note and a photo of the teacher. When a teacher leaves, tell parents first: who takes over, when, and how the handover works.

How you will know: fewer children withdrawn mid-year, and fewer surprised parents at pick-up.

Answer the 2027 question before parents ask it

From 2027, Malaysia lowers the preschool entry age to five and Year 1 to six (Malay Mail, January 2026). Parents of four- and five-year-olds will want to know what it means for their child.

Do this week: write a one-page answer for your centre. Say which class each age joins in 2027 and how your programme prepares a five-year-old for Year 1. Share it on WhatsApp and add it to your Google profile as a post.

Ask for reviews at the concert, and reply to every one

Preschool ratings bunch at the very top. In our library of 1,637 rated centres (October 2026), the median rating is 4.9, 71% sit at 4.8 or higher, and only 4% are below 4.0. A parent comparing three centres sees three ratings of 4.9.

What separates you is how many reviews you have and what they say. The middle centre has 22 Google ratings; the top quarter has at least 35. Yet owners replied to only 16% of preschool reviews published October 2024 to September 2026, one of the lowest rates of any trade we hold.

Do this: after the year-end concert and in July, send parents one message with your review link. Never offer a fee discount or gift in return; Google bans rewards for reviews. Reply to each review with something specific about the class, without naming the child.

If you run several centres, the stars will not tell you which one is slipping. Highground reads what parents write about each of your centres and your rivals, and tells you which centre to fix.

Walk each centre with the preschool visit checklist, and read why parents move their child to another preschool. More for your trade is on our page for preschool owners.

Questions owners ask

How do I attract more parents to my preschool?

Be ready before the July peak, when parents start deciding. Answer every enquiry within hours, hand out one complete fee sheet, and invite parents to see an ordinary morning. Keep your Google photos current, with no children's faces.

How can I increase enrolment in my kindergarten?

Win the enquiry first: many low reviews come from parents who never enrolled. Follow up every open day visit within two days. Tell current parents early when a teacher changes, so they stay and refer siblings.

When is the best time to promote a preschool in Malaysia?

June and early July, then October and November. In our library, preschool reviews written peaked at 2,729 in July 2025 and 3,013 in December 2025, and fell to 386 in February 2026. Market before each peak, not during the quiet months.

Can I post photos of the children on social media?

Keep faces and names out of public posts. The Social Welfare Department reminded the public in July 2026 not to share content that identifies children. Show artwork, the classroom and hands at work instead.

What is a good Google rating for a preschool?

In our library of 1,637 rated preschools and childcare centres (October 2026), the median is 4.9 and the bottom quarter sits at 4.7 or lower. A 4.6 is low for this trade. Check yours with our free rating check.

What we counted: 1,637 preschools and childcare centres with 10 or more Google ratings, and 34,379 of their reviews published October 2024 to September 2026, counted by month, all in our library of places in Malaysia, counted 22 October 2026.
